Mark Barriga, Team Philippines' best bet in the Olympic Games, has just lost his chance to advance to the quarterfinals when Birzhan Zhakypov of Kazakhstan overpowered, crushed, and brought him to the floor at the second round of 16 of Men's Light Fly Boxing (49Kg) in London.
The Philippines' last Olympic Medal was in 1996 Atlanta Games when Onyok Velasco brought home the Silver Medal in boxing.
Meanwhile, three more Olympians are still competing in London:
August 7 – Marestella Torres (Long Jump)
August 8 – Rene Herrera (5,000m Race)
